Reflections presents acclaimed duo Visible Cloaks in their Chicago debut. Blurring the lines between real & virtual musicians, the group will use aleatoric processes & hyperreal instrumentation to explore sonic terrain beyond purely human limitations.
We’ll bring their vision of “indeterminate chamber music” to life in immersive, quadraphonic sound. Paired with our projection-mapped light show, the night promises to transform this historic Chicago church in a state of mystery and abstract beauty.
Visible Cloaks
VISIBLE CLOAKS are two musicians, Spencer Doran and Ryan Carlile, working in the space between composition and sound design, arrangement and environment, place and non-place.
Their music has taken many forms: site-specific multi-channel pieces, live A/V performances, compositions for aleatoric chamber ensembles, albums, EPs, film scores, video game music composing, corporate sound design, collaborations with musicians like Miyako Koda, Motion Graphics, Seungmin Cha, Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano, and music for installations by artists like Brenna Murphy, Mike Tyka and Nile Koetting.
Both live and in the studio, their work focuses on the artifice of digital representation, utopian flashes seen in cultural exchange, the cartography of virtual worlds and the extension of abandoned vectors of futurism into the present.
Colloboh
COLLOBOH is a Nigerian-born, Los Angeles-based artist. He creates progressive electronic music compositions through the guidance of intuition.
A self-taught synthesist, Colloboh has toured and performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia with revered acts such as Suzanne Ciani, Beach House, Richie Hawtin, Kim Gordon and others. He’s released two albums on Leaving Records, Entity Relation (2021) and Saana Sahel (2023).
Wicker Park Lutheran Church
Tonight’s church was founded on August 25, 1879 as an English speaking Lutheran church by German and Scandinavian residents of Wicker Park. Built in 1906, it features a basilica design, with double colonnades and an apse, a style used in ancient Rome for courts of law or places of public assembly. Please be aware the building is not an ADA accessible space.
