Join Reflections for an intimate evening at Constellation with modular synth composer and vocalist Arushi Jain. We’ll experience her live performance of material from her new album Delight, released on Leaving Records.
Arushi’s live performances are gaining notoriety for their intensity, passion, and attention to sonic detail. On this night, we’ll pair her solo performance with projection-mapped visuals, illuminating the space with an immersive light show.
Arushi Jain
Arushi Jain is a modular synthesist, singer, producer, radio host and engineer with an unorthodox vision of a centuries-old tradition – one that’s electronic and resolutely DIY.
Her compositions are inspired by Hindustani classical ragas, explored in an aesthetic that is contemporary and current. Her music is a unique reinterpretation of her two contrasting worlds colliding. Arushi grew up in Delhi, where she was exposed to Indian classical and other regional music from a young age. Later, Arushi moved to California to study Computer Science at Stanford University, where she was introduced to computer generated sounds and synthesis at the Centre for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). In her music, ancient ragas from North India are re-imagined with the tools and technologies she learned as a synthesist and technologist in the Bay Area.
Her most recent album Delight was released on Leaving Records in March 2024. Her work has been featured on Pitchfork, Bandcamp, Boiler Room, Ableton, Resident Advisor, FACT, Crack, DJMag, and more. Arushi is the founder of GHUNGHRU, a radio series and record label, and is a resident at NTS Radio.
Dorothy Carlos
Dorothy Carlos is an experimental cellist and electronic musician working in improvised performance and multi-channel sound. Her work utilizes randomized electronics and extended techniques to explore fragility and imaginaries. Her work has been featured in The Wire, New York Times, Artforum, The Quietus, and the Chicago Reader. In 2022, Dorothy released an album on the Chicago-based label American Dreams. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from NYU where she studied classical cello and anthropology and an MFA in sound from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
